These statistics beat the national average by over 30%.  The program was an astounding success, and had it continued, it may have reshaped the treatment of addiction in the USA.

Course Description:

Not everyone who is traumatized becomes addicted but everyone who is addicted has been traumatized – Gabor Maté

Addiction, often referred to as Substance Use Disorder (SUD), is defined as a disease that involves the continued use of one or more substances despite serious health and social consequences. Addiction interferes with parts of the brain that are responsible for motivation, reward, judgment, learning and memory. Once the brain has been changed by addiction, the person loses control of their behavior, becoming a disease; the result of poor choices. The purpose of this course is to identify the root causes of addiction and the effects it has on the mind, body and spirit.

People with a mild SUD may recover with little or no treatment. People with the most serious form of SUD typically need intensive treatment followed by lifelong management. Some may stop drinking or abusing substances without treatment, or simply by attending self-help meetings without receiving much, if any, professional help. How are some people able to stop quit their addictions while others are not? What is the missing link?

One root cause is childhood or adult trauma that hasn’t been properly addressed. Failing to face the root of the addiction is equivalent to applying a band-aid to a wound and expecting it to heal. This course will help clinicians and recovering addicts understand how trauma may be the key to conquering addiction and experiencing lasting recovery.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the causes of substance use disorders and factors that influence continued use of the substances.
  2. Identify the signs, symptoms and types of substance use disorders, and methods to help mitigate the cause of addiction.
  3. Identify methods to help unravel the hidden emotional or psychological traumas that may be the root cause of the disease.
  4. Through a Quantum Biofeedback demonstration, the participant will be able to follow an addiction protocol to maximize the client’s response to each biofeedback session.
